UK Storm: The Small Aftermath

As I write this (1am last night) I am trying to get to sleep, but the sound of rain (which is normally soothing) is joined by a loud howl of wind that is literally throwing the rain at my window. I didn't believe that the storm was going to be this severe. The MET office normally over exaggerate what is going to happen, but in this case I think they were right to call it a "hurricane like storm". I went downstairs earlier and peaked out the back door. I saw that next doors fence is on top of our now flattened garden table and the matching chairs were nowhere to be seen. Then I stepped back from the window to step in a puddle, where water has been getting through the gaps in our door and making a pool of rain water. We're not the only ones, of course! Many of my friends have had power cuts and another friend text me to say that his shed door was flying around the garden.

Here is what our garden looked like this morning...

It may not look like much, but it was god damn noisy last night when the wind was moving around the fences and the chairs. I hope it isn't the same tonight. Go away horrible weather, you are not welcome!

Sunday Round-Up #2

I hope that you have all had a wonderful week, despite the awful weather that has hit the UK. It has been a more relaxed week for me, yet I have got more done! Hooray for productivity. So without further ado, here is my weekly round up:

// Hello, Im Grace, and I am a Snapchat addict. Friday night was a good old party. Two of my housemates had some of their friends staying, which obviously meant that we had to show them a good time in Bournemouth. Ring of fire was the game of the evening and far too many shots followed. This ended in me sending around 20 snapchats to everyone on my contacts list and many more to the people that actually replied. Oops.

// I got through my presentation on Monday without dying. We did finish half an hour earlier than our lecturer wanted though so I am pretty nervous to find out our grade.

// I love the fact that it is not cold enough to wear coats. I mean, it would be nice to be able to wear the new leather jacket that I bought the other week, but I am happy to still be wearing tops with just a light hoodie. I am liking the crunchy leaves though, they are so satisfying to trample on.

// With only 8 weeks (or so) till Christmas I am debating when to watch Elf and when to whack out the Christmas music. My housemates aren't ready for the amount of Christmas spirit I have.

// Have you all survived the first night of the "storm"? Last night we were nice and snug in our kitchen staring at the trees as they were thrown around in the wind. It really is incredible how powerful wind can be.

// I am going home on Friday as I have a reading week next week. I am SO excited and it means that I get to see my best friend for her birthday. I am planning on cooking some meals when I am home to help my Mom out, so you never know, I might blog about it... ;)

Speak to you crazy kids next week.

Lightning, Pizza and Aristocats

>

Last night the skies were angry, I can only guess why. The only light outside came from flashes of lightning that looked so beautiful as they made the black sky purple for a few brief seconds. And it was those seconds in which we began counting, waiting for the roars of thunder to tell us how close the storm was. At its peak it was half a second away. Does that mean half a mile? Who knows! It was this storm that rudely interrupted our viewing of The Aristocats. The static from the storm made my fairy lights flicker, and through my net curtain we could see the occasional flashes. We were so interested in the storm that The Aristocats took a back seat to us viewing the lightning show for half of the film (until 'Everybody Wants to be a Cat' came on- How can you not sing to that).

It was only as the storm finished that we decided that we needed some food. Pizza Hut delivery was the option of the evening and gosh darn it was worth the wait. Every time a car drove past our house or paused outside I would run to the window shouting 'FOOOD', and every time I was disappointed. 40 minutes after ordering our food we finally received it, ate it and enjoyed the parts of The Aristocats that we had previously missed.

Last night was a good night and the calm after the storm this morning is bright and beautiful, even if there are far too many puddles on the road.

PS- I am totally disappointed that Ruby didn't win The Great British Bake Off, but congratulations to Francis for winning the prize!

Sunday Catch-Up #1

I have decided to get my ass in gear. Not only with this blog but with my university work too because let me tell you, they weren't lying when they said that second year was going to be fast paced. I am always saying that 'I am sorry' about not blogging so much, but then I take a look at life and I realise that my university degree is more important than this blog and that my work should receive my foremost attention.

// I managed to catch up on all the TV I missed for the last couple of weeks in one day on Saturday. That's right I had a Downton Abbey/ How I Met Your Mother/ New Girl marathon and it was fab. Don't judge me internet.

// Our course is having a masquerade ball just before Christmas and I am overly excited. I want to buy a thousand beautiful dresses, find the perfect mask and be driven to the ball in a pumpkin carriage. Prince Charming, I am coming for you!

// Presentations are a lot more daunting than you believe. It's not the standing up and being stared at by people that scares me, its the forgetting information and stumbling over words that makes me nervous. I can't get through a normal conversation without twisting my words, stupid tongue, always getting in the way. My first graded presentation of the year is tomorrow (technically today) and I am dreading it, so much that I want to stay in bed all day and not do it at all.

// "There is only so long you can hold onto one sided love".

// I am loving our units for PR this year, we get to be so much more creative! This is what I signed up to university for! Throw the theory out the window and focus on the practical.

// It is my Mum and Dad's Wedding anniversary today (technically yesterday). 23 years and I don't know how my Mum has coped ;) I want a relationship like theirs. Full of love and respect. Congrats you crazy mofos.

// My friends and I went down to the beach for the first time since being back in Bournemouth, on Friday. It was wonderful to see the waves crashing against the sand again, it really is a beautiful beach rain or shine.

Its Sunday

Its Sunday and you know what that means...

Sitting in bed til 2 (or longer).
Skyping the family.
Doing presentation work.
Eating far too much bad food.
Taking far too many snapchats.
Sitting staring at my phone, waiting for people to distract me from doing work.
Catching up on Downton Abbey.

The usual.

Oh, and its national no bra day, I don't know what it supports (un-intended pun, I promise), but it seems that today I am going to be participating! Until I get a shower that is.

A Quick Catch Up

It is now October, which means Blogtember has come and gone and I should be back to normal blogging. Even though I didn't manage all of the days in Blogtember I think I gave it a good crack. This coming from the girl who normally only does 3 posts a month.

Life is getting busier now, with university starting and assignments being set. This year we have to look for a placement for our 3rd year, so if there are any brands that want me as their PR/ media/ comms intern for a year, hit me up. I will be on my computer daily searching for internships, writing up my CV and writing cover letters and I am actually excited about this. Really, I am.

I am growing up guys, it was always inevitable.
